Introducing SAVAGE A Lightweight SVG Editor and Illustrator Alternative
Edit, draw, organise. Vector illustration without the weight, and without the subscription.
Professional vector software has become heavy. Heavy on memory, heavy on start-up time and heavy on the monthly bill. For a lot of people who simply want to open an SVG, move a few points, draw a new shape or build a character, that is far more software than the job needs.
So we're building something lighter.
SAVAGE is a new SVG editor and organiser from the team behind Devastator. It lets you open and edit SVG files, manipulate individual points, draw new outlines and shapes, and design complete characters, all inside a fast, memory efficient desktop app. It's being built as a genuine alternative to Adobe Illustrator for everyday vector work.
No subscription. No account renewals. Buy it once and it's yours.
What Is SAVAGE?
SAVAGE is a vector based design tool built specifically around SVG, the format the modern web runs on. Logos, icons, illustrations, game sprites, UI graphics and characters all live happily as SVG, and SAVAGE treats it as a first class format rather than an export option buried in a menu.
It combines two things that usually live in separate apps:
- An editor for drawing and reshaping vector artwork point by point
- An organiser for browsing, sorting and managing your whole SVG collection
Think of it as a digital illustrator's pack in one compact program: the core drawing tools you reach for every day, without the thousands of features you never touch.
Edit Points with Precision
At the heart of SAVAGE is a proper node editor. Open any SVG and every path becomes editable, right down to the individual anchor points and curve handles.
- Select, move and nudge single points or whole groups of points
- Drag Bézier handles to reshape curves smoothly
- Add and delete points anywhere along a path
- Convert points between sharp corners and smooth curves
- Join, split, open and close paths
- Snap to a grid, guides and other points for clean alignment
That makes SAVAGE ideal for tidying up downloaded icons, fixing awkward curves in a logo or adapting existing artwork without redrawing it from scratch.
Draw New Outlines and Shapes
When you're starting from a blank canvas, SAVAGE gives you the familiar tools for building artwork quickly:
- Pen tool for precise, curve by curve outlines
- Pencil and freehand tools for natural sketching that's smoothed into clean paths
- Shape tools for rectangles, rounded rectangles, ellipses, polygons, stars and lines
- Shape combining to merge, subtract, intersect and exclude shapes into new forms
- Fills and strokes with solid colours, linear and radial gradients, stroke widths, caps, joins and dashes
- Text that can be converted to outlines when you need it as pure vector
Everything stays fully editable. A shape drawn today can be reshaped point by point tomorrow.
Design Characters
SAVAGE is being built with character design in mind, not just logos and icons. Characters are rarely one shape. They're heads, eyes, mouths, limbs, clothing and accessories, layered and arranged on top of each other.
- Layers and groups keep every body part separate and easy to select
- Lock and hide parts while you work on the details underneath
- Reusable parts so the same eyes, hands or outfits can be dropped into new designs
- Transform tools to rotate, scale, flip and skew parts into new poses
Because every part is a clean SVG element, characters designed in SAVAGE are ready to animate, drop into a game or use across a website straight away.
Organise Your SVG Library
Most designers end up with hundreds or thousands of SVG files scattered across folders, and most operating systems are poor at previewing them. SAVAGE includes a visual organiser so you can actually see what you have.
- Browse folders as a grid of live SVG thumbnails
- Tag, favourite and group files into collections
- Search by name and tag to find artwork in seconds
- Open any file straight into the editor with a click
- Batch rename, copy and export
Lightweight and Memory Efficient
SAVAGE is built with Tauri and Electron, modern desktop frameworks that let us deliver a fast, native feeling app on Windows, macOS and Linux. The focus throughout is on staying lean: quick to open, light on memory and responsive even on modest laptops.
It works offline, it doesn't need a cloud account to open your own files, and it won't sit in the background eating resources while you work in other programs.
Clean SVG Output
Plenty of design tools save SVG files stuffed with editor metadata and unnecessary code. SAVAGE is being built to export clean, tidy SVG that's ready for the web: sensible view boxes, optimised paths and no clutter. You can also export to PNG when you need a raster version.
